Tjørnuvík Beach – (Video) – (Spring)

When it comes to villages with a view on the Faroe Islands, the village of Tjørnuvík definitely deserves a spot next to villages like Viðareiði, Gjógv and Funningur. The road to Tjørnuvík (Route 594) is a treat in itself. Along the way, you pass Fossá, the highest waterfall on the Faroe Islands and the views are stunning. Be prepared to constantly watch out for sheep, which makes the journey an adventure on its own!

The Northernmost Village on Streymoy

Tjørnuvík is the northernmost village on the island of Streymoy, located at the bend of a bay in a wide, deep valley. Various findings suggest that people lived here during the Viking era; in the 1950s, a Viking burial site was discovered. Today, about 65 people call the village home. From a distance, it feels like the most secluded village you’ve ever seen. The mountain cliffs are towering and the village looks tiny in the depths of the valley.

Tjørnuvík, surfing with a view of Risin og Kellingin

Tjørnuvík boasts a beautiful, wide beach with a stunning view of the impressive sea stacks Risin og Kellingin. The spot is a favorite among surfers, with true enthusiasts braving the cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean to catch some great waves. When the waves are lacking, kayaks are often taken out into the bay. In addition to surfing and kayaking, guided tours are available that include all the activities, including cliff jumping. Thrill-seekers will definitely find their place in Tjørnuvík!
