Kolbeinagjógv, until 2011 also known as Kolbanargjógv (Danish: Koldbensgjov), is a village on the western coast of the Faroese island of Eysturoy in the Sjóvar municipality. The 2007 population was 39.
Sjóvar parish. The old parish of Sjóvar included the villages of Selatrað, Strendur, Skála and Skálafjørð. Of these villages, Skálafjørður is the youngest. It was built sometime in the 1600s. Just over 100 years ago, the settler villages of Morskranes and Inom Glyvur were added. The newest settler village is Kolbeinagjógv, which arrived a good 60 years ago.
The name Sjóvar parish comes from the district at Sjóvv á Strondur, because there stands the church as it is now, and there have been churches before this place for hundreds of years as far back as historical sources can reach. The church at Sjógv was the only church in the parish right up to our time. The present church was built in 1834. A church was built at Selatrað in 1927, and at Skáli in 1940. How old Sjóvar parish and Beaches are we don’t know, but we want to go back at least to the 15th century. century.
On 1 January 1952, Sjóvar parish split into two parishes, and Skála and Skálafjørður separated and became independent municipalities with the title Skála municipality. Sjóvar parish retained its old name after the division, now with the villages of Glyvur, Strendur, Kolbanargjógv, Morskranes and Selatrað.
The municipality includes approx. 70 marks in land. In Strandir there are 19 7/8 mk. property and 20 1/4 mk. land.
On Selatrað there are 8 merk property and 22 merk land.
